Rhodes College is a private, predominantly undergraduate, liberal arts college located in Memphis, which is a city in the southwest corner of Tennessee state, USA, serving as the county seat of Shelby County, with a population of more than 676 600 inhabitants, which makes it the largest city in the state, the 3rd largest one in Southeastern USA, and the 19th largest in the US.
The college was established in 1848 and was originally founded by freemasons, becoming affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in 1855. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and offers its students 24 departmental and 8 interdisciplinary majors, including 35 minors, its most popular majors being the ones in biology, history, English, business and psychology.
Rhodes' athletic teams are nicknamed the Lynx and they compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in the NCAA's Division III. Their distinctive colors are red, black and white.
